Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome
|

|
The Construction Industry over the past few years has changed dramatically. Health and Safety has taken precedence with all company’s having to comply with new legislation set out by the HSE.
One of the key issues of today is excessive Hand Arm and Whole Body Vibration

Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome
HAVS is an irreversible condition affecting nerves and circulation
caused by vibration. The effect is cumulative – each exposure
can worsen the condition.
Harm can be caused by as little as 15 minutes exposure
per day for some tools. Risk can be eliminated / reduced
by controlling exposure.

Hand Arm Vibration Testing
We at WHC Hire Services over the past 4 years have developed a programme of preventative
measures to ensure our customers are not being over exposed to vibration.
Firstly we have purchased the latest Vibration Testing Equipment, then
by installing concrete, stone and tarmac test beds within our premises,
we are able to simulate a working environment whilst testing our equipment.
Test results are then downloaded to our data base where upon a Vibration Certificate is
produced to accompany the piece of equipment tested.

| Whole Body Vibration Testing
As of July 2006 Whole Body Vibration Testing
will also become part of all Company’s
Health and Safety Policy as a new directive
is being released by the HSE.
Even though the consultation period will be
up to 4 years, the fact remains Company’s will
have to start thinking about doing risk
assessments on their Plant and Vehicles,
before it comes into force in 2010
WHC Hire Services has now in place the testing equipment and expertise, so that we can begin the Whole Body Vibration Testing.

As of July 2006 all our Excavators, Rollers, Dumpers etc will be Whole Body Vibration Tested as part of their 3 month service schedule.
We will be able to produce a Test Certificate to accompany our Plant
Equipment when it goes out on hire.
The good news is there is no extra cost to the customer but it gives the information needed for their Health and Safety Files.
